Project Wins Nationwide Honors
The Mental Health Association of Rockland County and its Smart Brain, Strong Brain, Fit Brain Project, took Fourth Place in a 40 Project Competition seeking to honor the best and most innovative brain activity programs in the Country. The SharpBrains 2010 Brain Fitness Awards were presented on May 24, 2010
The Grant from the New York State Office for the Aging
The Honorable Harriet Cornell, Rockland County Legislative Chair and Dr. Karen Oates, President and CEO of the the Mental Health Association of Rockland County jointly announced that a $64,000 Community Empowerment Grant has been awarded to The Mental Health Association of Rockland County by the New York State Office for the Aging to promote lifelong mental wellness and cognitive engagement.
The award of this grant helps to fulfill the Legislature’s commitment to make Rockland a leader in age-friendly community building. “The Community Empowerment Grant builds on our overall commitment to enhance opportunities for our older adults to have rich and purposeful lives,” said Legislature Chairwoman Harriet Cornell. “When government works with community partners we boost positive results,” she said.
Our First Meeting Draws 100 Participants
Five hundred Rockland residents over the age of 62 are eligible to participate in an eighteen month brain fitness program called, “Smart Brain, Strong Brain, Fit Brain.” The program was demonstrated on January 26th at 10:30 a.m., at the Rockland Community College (at the Ellipse in the Technology Building). Approximately 100 people attended.
